The United States invaded Iraq in 2003 in the wake of 9/11. The belief was that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and this justified the invasion.
The Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein invaded the oil rich Nation of Kuwait and because of this the UN sent a Coalition Force of American, British, French, and other European troops to push Saddam out of the country. They succeeded but failed to topple the Hussein dictatorship.

The Iron Curtain was seen as a threat to the American way of life and in efforts in Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, the US tried to halt the spread of this threat.
World War Two is the single most defining conflict in United States history. The war ended with the US being one of the most powerful nations in the world. These Sherman Tanks were easy to manufacture and showed how important the American manufacturing industry was to the war effort.
World War One resulted in the highest casualties numbers the world had ever seen, however the United States joined the fight late and only 54,000 Americans lost their lives in contrast to the hundreds of thousands lost by the other nations involved. Many brave stories came out of this such as the story of Alvin York. York single handed captured an entire German battalion three hundred and twelve soldiers. He was awarded the Medal of Honor.
The Battle of San Juan Hill was where Teddy Roosevelt was able to solidify his legacy and legend by leading his cavalry called the "Rough Riders" up the hill and took control of the Spanish defend hilltop. |
