World War One resulted in the highest casualties numbers the world had ever seen, however the United States joined the fight late and only 54,000 Americans lost their lives in contrast to the hundreds of thousands lost by the other nations involved. Many brave stories came out of this such as the story of Alvin York. York single handed captured an entire German battalion three hundred and twelve soldiers. He was awarded the Medal of Honor.
